Description
The walls of the ruined fortalice are part of the curtain wall from the original fortification at Dartmouth Castle. Dating from the late 14th century, with some alterations from the 18th century, the structure is built from local stone rubble. A section of the ruined wall is located to the south-west of the main castle complex and includes the remains of a circular mural tower. The masonry features a regular series of putlog holes. The stone steps within the tower are believed to have been added in the 18th century when the tower was adapted as a garden feature. This site is also designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
