Description
This building is a folly located about 100 metres east of Oldstone, likely dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed from local slate rubble with freestone dressings and is designed in the form of a barbican. The front wall serves as a retaining wall for an earth mound behind it. The wall features a canted centre with arrow loops on each of its three sides, and the lower flanking walls are ramped up to the central part, which returns on either side to support the earth mound. The central canted tower has a chamfered stone plinth.
