Description

The building is a farmhouse, likely dating from the early 17th century. It has undergone demolition, extension, and remodeling in the 18th and 19th centuries. The exterior is constructed of local slate rubble, rendered on the front, with an asbestos slate hipped roof and red clay ridge tiles. A projecting lateral stack is located at the rear, featuring a 19th-century red brick shaft.

The original plan likely comprised three rooms with a through passage, although the southwest end has been rebuilt as a farm building, a separate listed structure. A porch fronts the through passage, and the hall has a lateral stack at the rear. An alteration in the 18th or early 19th century may have created a cross passage connecting the hall to an inner room, providing access to a wide, unheated wing behind the higher portion of the house. A 19th-century addition includes an outbuilding with a loft at the upper right end. The lower end was rebuilt in the late 18th or early 19th century, and a late 19th-century heated outshut was added to the lower left side of the rear wing.

The south front has an asymmetrical appearance with three windows on each floor. The upper floor has three 2-light casements, while the ground floor features two late 19th-century casements and a large 3-light hall window to the left of centre, with glazing bars. A late 19th-century glazed and panelled door is located to the right of centre, and a 20th-century plank door is at the right-hand end, alongside a row of pigeon holes under the eaves. A prominent feature of the front is a single-story porch on the left, with a catslide roof extending from the main roof. It has a small window with a slate hoodmould, and an unusual doorway on the right with a large dressed slate chamfered arch, a cantilevered slated canopy, and a 20th-century plank door. The rear has a wide hipped roof 2-story wing behind the hall, partially obscuring the projecting hall stack. On the right and lower side, there's a lean-to outshut with a slate roof and a scantle, open-fronted lean-to porch leading to the back doorway of the passage.

A slate rubble wall, contemporary with the farmhouse (18th or 19th century), encloses a small front garden. It’s topped with pitched slate capping and has squat gate piers at either end. The interior was inaccessible during a 1988 survey, but may contain features of interest.
