Description
Large farmhouse. Probably 17th century, with substantial remodelling and partial rebuilding around the mid-19th century. The construction is of rubble, with the front rendered, the south-west gable slate-hung, and an asbestos slate roof. The original section of the house survives at the north-east end, with a large extension built inline to the south-west. The house is two storeys high, with a basement at the left end, and has a 3+1 window front. The rebuilt section has 16-pane sashes at each level, flanking a two-storey porch with a 12-pane over arched opening above the front door, accessed by steps. To the left of the porch is a large plank door leading down a ramp to the cellar. To the right is the earlier kitchen block, its roof sweeping down over a pair of 2-light casements at each level, and a further section with a longer sweep-down over a 3-light and a 2-light casement. The left gable is plain, with an external stack that is slate-hung. The right end of the house has a hip roof with a further sweep-down. The rear elevation features 2-light glazing bar casements and a wide plank door in a pent roof to the older section. A slightly set-back 19th-century section has 16-pane sashes at each level, including a Yorkshire sliding sash with glazing bars. A large ridge stack is situated at the junction of the old and new sections. The interior of the original kitchen features a heavy chamfered beam, while the later section has a stick stair, shutters and contemporary doors.
