Description

North Upton Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around 1820 to 1830. It is constructed of smooth, rendered stone rubble with a hipped slate roof. The building has rendered brick stacks, two at the front and two at the rear. The plan is of a double depth, with a wing extending behind the right-hand end. The front features two main rooms, with a stairhall between them; a slightly larger room is situated on the right. A pantry is located behind the left-hand room, and a service wing behind the right-hand end contains a kitchen and a back kitchen. A later 19th-century dairy is built as a lean-to against the inner face of the rear wing. The front elevation has a symmetrical arrangement of three windows, featuring original hornless 12-pane sashes. A porch is positioned slightly to the left of centre, topped with a flat hood supported by fluted pillars, which have been rendered. A 20th-century conservatory is attached to the right-hand end. The rear wing has original 16-pane sash windows. The front rooms feature simple moulded ceiling bands. The interior also includes panelled shutters and doors, plus an open well staircase with square panelled newel posts, an open string, and carved tread ends.
