Description
Wellcombe is a detached cottage dating from the 17th or early 18th century, located in the village centre of Buckland Tout Saints. The cottage is constructed of painted rubble with a thatched roof. It has rubble stacks, with one to the left raised in brick. The roof slopes down over a stair turret at the front left, and a two-storey, two-window unit is centrally positioned to the right. The ground floor features a two-light casement and a 9-pane replacement window from the 20th century. The first floor has a two-light and a three-light casement, both with glazing bars. A part-glazed plank door is sheltered by a thatched hood. A projecting corbel or kneeler, carried down as a buttress or pilaster and topped with thatch, is situated at the right end; the purpose of this feature is unknown. The left return side has a deep, high two-light casement on the left, and a two-light window to the staircase. A slate lean-to extension is present to the right, under a two-light casement, and extends across the back of the cottage. The interior has not been inspected.
