Description
The walls and ruins adjoining the west of Lyneham House are garden walls that incorporate earlier ruins, dating from the 18th century and earlier. The walls at the eastern end, which are adjacent to the house and enclose a courtyard now containing a swimming pool, are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond with stone coping. The corner piers feature moulded granite ogee caps topped with ball finials. The inner side of the wall facing the yard is made of slate rubble. At the western end, the wall is also of slate rubble and includes the ruins of a house or outbuildings from around the 16th century. Notable features include a large granite round-arched doorway with continuous roll moulding and a late 16th-century chimneypiece adorned with baluster pilasters and an ornate Doric entablature.
