Description

This is an early 17th-century dwelling, originally built of local rubble stone with granite dressings and a slate roof. It has a single-cell rectangular plan.

The west elevation features a granite doorway with a chamfered round arch situated to the right, and a granite stone mullion window centrally. The north elevation has a granite stone mullion window on both the ground and first floor levels. The south elevation displays the remains of a chimney stack, which may have formerly served as a doorway. Below it is a window with a pointed arch opening. A window is also visible on both ground and first floor levels, with weatherboarding in between, and a further inserted window is located at first floor to the left. A raking buttress is present to the left, and a projecting wall to the right. The east elevation is largely hidden by a late 20th-century extension that is not considered to be of special architectural interest.

Inside, the internal timber lintels and the doorway lintel are chamfered with run-out stops. The south wall exhibits chamfered granite jambs belonging to a former fireplace, above which is a two-centred chamfered arch, likely originally a doorway lintel given its rebated interior. This suggests the possibility of a blocked doorway leading to a demolished section of the building. The first floor is supported by 20th-century ceiling beams; however, earlier beams may be concealed. The roof is now supported by 20th-century scissor-braced trusses.

The property is designated at Grade II for its significance as an early 17th-century building that retains a substantial amount of original fabric and possesses good-quality architectural features indicative of its original domestic use, including the granite stone chamfered doorway and granite stone mullion windows.
