Description
This building is a water corn mill, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed from local stone rubble, featuring large roughly dressed quoins, and is rendered on the southwest side. The mill has a slate roof with gable ends and is rectangular in shape, with the gable end facing the road and an overshot water wheel located on the left (southwest) side. The mill serves as a cross-wing to Millhouse Farmhouse, which is situated to the right and appears to have been built after the mill.
The exterior of the mill has three storeys. The ground floor includes a doorway to the right with a plank door and a three-light window to the left. There is a similar window at the centre of the first floor and a two-light window in the gable on the second floor, all featuring dressed stone segmented arches. The large iron overshot water wheel is positioned on the left side. The rear elevation was not inspected, but it may provide access to the upper floors from the higher ground level behind. The interior was inaccessible during the survey in 1987, but it is reported to contain machinery that was operational about ten years ago.
