Description

Ashleigh Barton Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 16th century. It is constructed of stone rubble with granite dressings and features an asbestos slate roof, with the northern half having hipped and gabled ends. The building has an L-shaped plan and stands two storeys high, with a range of four windows. Most of the windows are 19th-century casements with timber lintels.

On the left side of the ground floor, there is a granite 2-light chamfered window frame with a hoodmould. A similar 3-light window is located on the south side and in the wing. To the right of the centre, there is a moulded granite doorway with a 4-centred arch leading to a cross passage. This doorway features carved quatrefoil spandrels and a hoodmould with carved steps. An external stone chimneystack is positioned on the front to the left of centre. The farmhouse includes a truncated gabled wing to the left (northeast) and a single-storey gabled wing at the centre, along with a gabled stair wing on the south side.

Inside, the ground floor east room has a moulded plaster overmantel depicting the Sacrifice of Isaac, complete with relief figures. The fireplace below this overmantel is blocked. There is also a moulded granite chimneypiece associated with a blocked fireplace on the north side of the former hall. A 17th-century dogleg staircase in the northeast wing features thick turned balusters, chamfered newels, and a closed string. On the first floor, there are two moulded wooden doorframes with carved steps.
