Description

Bay Tree Cottage is a house dating to the 1830s and 1840s, located on Roseville Street in Dartmouth. It is built primarily of painted or plastered stone rubble, with some plastered timber framing, and has a slate roof. The house is four storeys high, with a single-storey extension to the front on the left. The front is mostly plastered, with the lower portion lightly blocked out to resemble ashlar. A part-glazed six-panel door is centrally positioned on the right-hand side. A replacement horned sash window sits above the door, lacking glazing bars. The first floor has French windows with margin glazing opening onto a cast-iron balcony featuring an Arabesque pattern. A canted bay window with a 16-pane sash and fixed top light is on the second floor, while the third floor has a three-by-six-pane sash window. The eaves are plain and boarded. The roof is hipped to the left and gabled to the right. Other windows include 12-pane and three-by-six-pane sashes, found on the left and rear walls. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
