Description
The Ivybridge War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1922, with later additions for the Second World War. It is made from grey granite and is located at the junction of Fore Street and Erme Road, facing south.
The memorial features a Latin cross that rises from a slim pedestal, positioned at the center of a curved screen wall. This screen wall has recessed panels that display inscriptions, with a pedimented pier at each end. The pedestal is inscribed with lead lettering that reads, "IN HONOUR / OF THE MEN OF IVYBRIDGE / WHO MADE THE / SUPREME SACRIFICE / FOR THEIR / COUNTRY / IN THE GREAT WAR / 1914 – 1918." The names of the 44 individuals who fell during the First World War are recorded on the recessed panels of the wall. Additionally, the south faces of both piers list thirteen names each, under the dedication "1939-1945."
The memorial is set on a paved area that includes a dwarf post and chain fence.
