Description

The Bridge is a road bridge over the River Erme, dating from around the 17th century and widened in the 18th or 19th century. It features a single span with a slightly pointed high round arch, constructed from granite rubble with dressed granite voussoirs. The bridge has curved parapets that splay out over the abutments, with chamfered granite coping on top. Originally a narrow packhorse bridge, it was widened on the upstream side, likely in the 18th or 19th century. At either end of the south side, there are granite bollards, one inscribed "Ermington" and the other "Ugborough." Historical records indicate that there was a bridge on this site during the Middle Ages.
