Description

The Seymour Hotel is an early 19th-century building, with significant additions from the earlier to mid-19th century, including a three-bay ballroom on the river side. A modern extension and alterations are present at the rear. The building is two storeys high with dormers and basements. The front facing the street has three windows, with a further three-window extension on the south-west side, featuring two segmental bowed bay windows returning towards the river. Adjoining this is the ballroom, beneath hipped slate roofs with modern dormers. The facade is stuccoed, with a cornice and panelled parapets. The windows are recessed sash windows with glazing bars, some paired, others with side lights; the ballroom windows have large, eared architraves. The entrance has pilasters supporting an entablature with a blocking course, leading to a recessed doorway with a rectangular fanlight and a half-glazed door. The entrance is approached by curved flights of steps with a wrought iron handrail. The interior has been altered.
