Description

The barn adjoining the east of Higher Luscombe Cottage is a Grade II listed building, likely dating from the 18th century, and was converted into stables in the early 20th century. It is constructed from local stone rubble and features a corrugated iron roof, with a gable end on the left side that abuts Higher Luscombe Cottage and a hipped end on the right. The barn is positioned at right angles to the higher end of the cottage, with a rectangular plan that has its back facing a lane at a higher level, while the front opens into a yard in front of the house.

The barn is two storeys high. The front elevation has a blocked barn doorway located to the right of the center, which has a timber lintel, and an inserted window. To the left of the center is an early 20th-century stable doorway with brick jambs, along with a window to the far left, also featuring brick jambs. Above the left end of the front, there is a row of pigeon holes with slate flight ledges. The rear of the barn, which faces the lane, has an early 20th-century barn doorway on the left with plank doors, and on the right, there are external steps leading up to a loft doorway. Inside, the barn has a softwood scissor-braced roof from the 20th century.
