Description

This is an 18th or early 19th century building on Fore Street, altered in later years. It now appears as two separate structures, with three-storey fronts that form an obtuse angle. Each front has a wood ogee bracket eaves cornice. The left-hand portion of the building, number 57, has three windows on the upper floors, sash windows with only the central panes glazed. The right-hand portion, comprising numbers 58 and 59, is cement rendered and lined, with a second-floor band. Four windows are visible on the second floor, including two windows on the left-hand side (number 58) that retain glazing bars. The first floor has been altered with two canted bays. The shops at ground floor level are largely modern. The building occupies an important position on Fore Street and, together with numbers 54 to 59, forms a group.
