Description

The building is a shippon with a hay loft above and a cartshed wing, dating from the 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed from local limestone rubble and features a corrugated asbestos sheet roof, which has a gabled end on the right and a hipped end on the left. There is a shed adjoining the left side of the front, which has a scantle slate hipped roof. The overall plan is long and rectangular, with the shippon on the ground floor and the hay loft above, accessible from the rear. At the back of the left end is a contemporary cartshed, which is situated at a higher ground level. The front has six plain shippon doorways, and the adjoining hipped roof shed has an open-fronted inner side. The ground at the back is elevated, featuring two loft doorways. The right gable end includes a ground floor doorway, blocked pigeon holes, and a ventilation slit above in the gable. The rear cartshed is open-fronted, with a timber arcade plate that is chamfered with run-out stops over chamfered wooden posts. The hayloft roof has collars that are halved and pegged to the faces of the straight principals, many of which are reused, likely from the left end of the house when it was reroofed. These principals have mortices for threaded purlins and dovetail halving for the collars. The roof over the cartshed has collars that are lapped and pegged to the face of the straight principals.
