Description

Falconers is a house that was re-erected in 1926 after being exhibited at the 1925 British Empire Exhibition at Wembley. It features a timber frame with plastered infilling, close studding, and tension braces, topped with a slightly pitched hipped roof covered in plain tiles and large brick aerial stacks. The design aims to replicate a Wealdon house, although it is not archaeologically accurate.

Inside, there is an open hall with a storeyed service end that includes a jettied chamber above and a parlour with a jettied solar. The hall showcases large arched braces and a central bracket beneath the continuous eaves. To the right of the hall, there is a screen passage doorway with a tiled canopy. The hall is lit by a multi-light window, with some lights paralleled over, while the solar and the first-floor chamber at the lower end have three-light windows with square bays below the jetties. All windows are wooden mullion casements featuring either diamond or square leaded panes. The house also has four hipped dormers, two of which illuminate the hall, and a rear wing with a half-hipped roof and a catslide over an outshot. Two large brick aerial chimney stacks rise from the ridge.

The interior includes an open hall with an exposed roof structure and a gallery. At the end of the hall, there is a large stack made of Flemish bond brickwork, featuring a cambered arch wooden fireplace beam with sunken spandrels. The parlour is adorned with wooden screens and moulded ceiling beams, including a dragon beam. The house was showcased by the Federated Home Crown Timber Merchants Association to highlight the use of native timber.
