Description
This is a house with origins in the 17th century, significantly extended and entirely remodelled in the 19th century. The exterior is constructed of roughly coursed stone rubble and has a slate roof with moulded bargeboards at the left gable end. There are stone stacks, one at the hipped end to the right, and another on the front between two left-hand gables.
The 17th-century fabric is contained within a rear wing, which now forms part of the house. A 19th-century Gothick front range, with a contemporary short wing at the rear left, has been added. The house has two storeys, and there are four windows across the front. The fenestration is in a Gothick style, with stone surrounds to the ground floor and timber frames to the upper storey, all featuring segmental pointed arches over the lights. A canted bay window rises two storeys in height, with a hipped slate roof and three-light windows with sidelights on each floor. The ground floor includes a two-light window to the left of the canted bay, and a gabled porch with a four-centred arched doorway and three-light windows on either side. A rear wing has a gable end with three-light casements on each floor, also in the Gothick style. A canted bay window is present at the left gable end. A single four-light ovolo mullion timber window remains in the rear range. A bell and bellcote are located at eaves level to the right.
Inside the central room of the 17th-century rear wing, there is a central beam and bressumers, along with joists, all ovolo-moulded with run-out stops. The roof structure of the rear wing has been raised and replaced, except for one likely 17th-century truss over the lower front end.
