Description
No. 83 High Street is a house that has been converted into a shop, dating from the early 19th century. It features a solid rendered front, and while the roof is not visible from the street, the building stands three storeys tall with a two-window range. The ground floor and the lower part of the second storey have been completely altered with a late 20th-century shop front. The second storey has segmental-headed windows that are framed with moulded architraves and tall keystones, and these windows contain six-paned sashes. Between the windows and at both ends, there are Doric pilasters that were clearly intended to extend down to the first-floor level originally, topped with a modillioned cornice. The third storey is similar in style but features round-arched windows that are now blind and lack continued cills. The pilasters on this level support a triangular pediment, which is adorned with two sprays of foliage in the center, forming an oval panel. The interior has not been inspected.
