Description
This is a pair of headstones located approximately 8 metres to the south-southeast of the Church of Saint Mary. They date from the mid to late 18th century and are made of sandstone. The northern headstone features a carved ramped segmental head and has an inscription in serif lettering that reads: "Here Rests in hope of A Joyful Resurrection the Body of Edward Shupcott/Woolcomber of this Parish who/Departed this life Ye 1st day of ........", with the remainder of the inscription being illegible as of July 1987. The southern headstone has a nowey head and its inscription, also in serif lettering, states: "Sacred to the Memory/of JOHN SHAPCOTT/ who departed this Life/....... 1796/Aged 31 years", with additional text being illegible at the time of the survey.
