Description

School House is a house dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, which was likely remodeled in the late 19th century or early 20th century. It has a cement render, probably applied over stone rubble and cob, and features a gable-ended asbestos-slate roof with a catslide over an outshut at the rear. There are rendered stacks at both gable ends. The building has a two-room plan facing south, with a larger principal room on the left that includes an integral end stack and an entrance at its right-hand end, and a smaller room on the right with an external end stack. There is a continuous outshut at the rear. The front entrance is located in the right-hand room and was likely inserted in the late 19th century, suggesting that the house may have been divided at some point. The house is two stories tall and has a nearly symmetrical two-window front. The windows are probably late 19th-century small-paned two-light wooden casements, with the left ground-floor window featuring a segmental head. There is a 20th-century half-glazed segmental-headed door just off center to the left, and a probably inserted 20th-century half-glazed door at the far right. Inside, the left-hand ground-floor room has two plastered chamfered cross beams and a blocked old fireplace, while the right-hand room contains a plastered cross beam.
