Description

Lundy Cottage is a house dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of stone rubble, rendered and roughcast, and features an asbestos slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends. The gable end stacks have rendered shafts with shaped tops, and part of the building is slate-hung.

The house has a two-room plan with a central entrance through a porch. The kitchen is located to the right and the parlour to the left, with both rooms heated by gable end stacks. There is an unheated outshut at the left end, likely originally a dairy, dating from the 19th century.

The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical two-window front. On both the ground and first floors, there are 2-light 2-pane casements from the 20th century. The front porch, a lean-to from the 19th century, includes a 6-pane window and a plank door with an outer plank gate, along with a small single light on the right side and an inner plank door. The single-storey lean-to at the left end has a small 20th-century window at the front. The upper gable end to the left is slate-hung, while the right end features a large external stepped stack with a curved oven at its base.

At the rear, there is a small 20th-century window on the ground floor to the left and another on the first floor in the centre. Inside, the partitions from the entrance passage on the ground floor have been removed, creating one large room. The ground floor has 19th-century ceiling beams and 20th-century fireplaces at the gable ends, with the left fireplace featuring granite jambs. The rest of the house was not inspected during the survey in October 1987.
