Description
Ash House, located approximately 5 metres east of Wiston Farmhouse, is likely from the 18th century. It is built of unrendered cob on a low stone rubble plinth and features a slate roof with gable ends. The structure is nearly square in shape and has a central doorway with a timber lintel on the west side. There is also a raking hole with a peaked head cut through the plinth and base of the cob at the right gable end. Although it is a single-storey building, it is tall enough to accommodate a low loft. The ash house is positioned in the north-east corner of the orchard in front of Wiston Farmhouse, where ash was primarily stored for use as fertilizer for mangold crops to feed sheep.
