Description
No. 92 High Street is a house and shop that dates from around 1710, with a later addition at the rear. The building has rendered, solid walls, likely made of brick, and features a slated roof with red ridge-tiles that runs parallel to the street. There is a red brick chimney on the right gable. The structure is double-depth and one room wide, originally four storeys tall but now altered to three.
The façade is asymmetrical yet regular, with a two-window range. The ground floor has a 20th-century shop front. The windows are adorned with moulded architraves; the first-floor windows are truncated at the bottom by a raised ceiling but still retain some stained glass. The second-floor windows are 8-pane sashes, while the third-floor windows feature 4 over 8-pane sashes. A notable feature is the exceptional coved eaves cornice, which is decorated with plaster trophies, including gloves, drums, and standards, in deep relief.
Inside, the building has been altered, with the original stair removed and the ground floor gutted for shop use. However, the upper floor still retains parts of a seed husk plaster ceiling in an 18th-century style.
