Description
The bridge over Hagginton Hill, located approximately 150 metres east of East Hagginton Farmhouse, dates from the mid-19th century. It is constructed of random stone rubble with brick dressings. The bridge features a single span with a segmental arch; the west side is adorned with brick dressings, while the east side has rough stone voussoirs. Low stone rubble parapet walls are present, with the west face featuring small weathered stone initialled JDB. On the upper left side, there is a stone rubble retaining wall that decreases in height and ends in two square-section stone rubble gatepiers, with rubble infilling between them. This bridge was built by the Basset family to provide private access from Watermouth Castle to the village of Berrynarbor.
