Description

No. 28 Silver Street is a house that likely dates from the early to mid 17th century. It has solid, rendered walls, which are probably made of brick or stone, and a slated roof. On the right gable, there are two rendered, diagonally-set chimneys made of 17th-century brick, with rebuilt tops; the front chimney features a tall, shaped pot of round section.

The house has two storeys and a two-window range, which has been largely remodeled in the 19th century. The ground storey includes a wide, folding plank door on the left, and a central window with slender glazing bars that divide it into three large panes below and four smaller panes above. The second storey has tall, narrow windows, each with sashes in recessed box-frames; these sashes have two upright glazing bars that form margin panes.

The interior has not been inspected, but it is reported to contain no early visible features. However, it is likely to have early fireplaces and possibly beams and door frames concealed under plaster. The house is adjacent to the Tavern in the Town public house, which is a notable 17th-century building located on Diamond Street.
