Description
A row of three adjoining cottages, probably dating largely from the 17th century, with No. 5 possibly being 18th century. The cottages are built of stone rubble and some cob, with continuous slate roofs and gable ends. No. 3 has two tall rear lateral stone rubble stacks, one featuring a bread oven projection. No. 4 has a rear lateral stone rubble stack and a stone rubble stack at its right end. No. 5 has a stone rubble stack at its right gable end. The plans are of a small 3-room and cross passage layout for Nos. 3 and 4, although the passage partition in No. 3 has been removed. No. 5 is of 2 rooms, with direct entry into the right-hand heated room. The cottages are two storeys high, with a 6-window range across all three. Stone rubble porches with lean-to slate roofs are present. Nos. 3 and 4 have 2-light casement windows with 2 panes per light. No. 5 has a 2-light casement window with 2 panes per light on each floor to the left, and a 2-light casement window with 4 panes per light to each floor to the right of the porch. The cottages collectively represent an interesting and relatively unspoilt row of early tenement cottages.
