Description

Ambow Cottage is a cottage, likely dating from the 18th century, with extensions and alterations made in the 20th century. It is built of painted rendered stone rubble and cob, and has a half-hipped thatched roof. A rendered axial stack is located at the former left end. Originally, the cottage had a two-room plan, with a heated room to the left and a short wing to the rear forming a T-shaped plan. The interior partitions were removed, and a two-storey extension of one-room plan was added to the left end in the 20th century. The cottage has three windows across two storeys. The windows are 20th-century, with two panes per light. A 20th-century porch with a thatched roof is present. Inside, there are chamfered cross ceiling beams in the front right-hand room, one of which has hollow step stops, and is likely a reused feature. The remainder of the interior was altered in the 20th century.
