Description
Fry headstone, located about 10 metres south-west of the corner of the west tower of the Church of St Peter, dates from 1817. It is made of slate and features a straight-headed design with incised cable moulding along the border. The inscription commemorates John Fry of this parish, who tragically died from burns sustained in a limekiln accident on August 4, 1817, at the age of 28, leaving behind a beloved wife and three children. The headstone also notes the deaths of his wife, who remarried John Slooman and died in 1856, and John Slooman himself, who died in 1861.
