Description
This is a 17th-century farmhouse, likely dating to 1622 as indicated by a datestone. It is constructed of colourwashed rendered rubble and cob with a gable-ended slate roof. The house has an L-shaped plan, with a right-angled extension originally a detached cider-mill house, now incorporated into the main range. A rubble outshut runs along the rear, enclosing a brick stack. The original plan featured a four-window front, with two two- and three-light casement windows (each with six panes) to the left, and two two-light casement windows (each with eight panes) to the right. A porch with slender colonnettes and a plain cornice sits to the left. The former cider-mill house has a variety of two- and three-light casement windows (most with eight panes) arranged over two three-light windows each side of a two-light window. The roof structure is largely original, featuring six trusses with collars halved into straight principals, carrying a single tier of threaded purlins and a diagonally set ridge purlin. The interior has been altered; roughly chamfered beams are present at the lower end of the main range, with a large end hearth featuring a chamfered lintel and a smaller hearth on the side wall. Beams have been boxed in at the upper end. A 1622 datestone has been reset in a blocked doorway in the rear outshut.
