Description

This is a tomb chest for members of the Comer family, located 5 metres south of the junction between the nave and chancel in Loxhore Parish Churchyard. It was created in the 1840s by Finch and Down of Barnstaple. The tomb chest features a slate tablet and slated sides set on a brick plinth. It has a cyma reversa stone moulding at the top and a roll moulding at the base of the slated sides. The slate top records the death of Richard Comer in 1840, his widow in 1843, and the name of Richard Comer Clarke, which was added in 1903.
