Description
This is an early 19th-century headstone located approximately 12 metres south of the south aisle of the Church of St Matthew, commemorating Elizabeth Luxton. The upright, square-headed slab stands about 0.8 metres high. The front features a nowy-headed plaque with the word 'Sacred' displayed in ornate Gothic lettering, followed by a record of Elizabeth Luxton's death in 1789, written in both upper and lower case Roman serif. The shallow bas-relief frame is decorated with floral designs and includes a Biblical quote around the top. The stone is covered in lichen and bears a signature, although only part of it, indicating it is from Winkleigh, is legible.
