Description

Jasmine Cottage Nos 1, 2, 3 (Vining Cottage) and No 4 (Jasmine Cottage) are four cottages built around 1870-1880. They are constructed from exposed local random rubble with brick dressings and feature stone rubble stacks with original brick chimney shafts, all topped with a slate roof. The cottages form a row facing south-west.

Nos 2, 3, and 4 are identical two-room plan cottages with central entrance lobbies and rear stairs, each having axial stacks that serve back-to-back fireplaces in the party walls, along with a left end stack for No. 4. No. 1, located at the north-western end, has a cross-wing that projects to the rear and is one room wide and three rooms deep, featuring a rear end stack and a front shop.

All cottages are two storeys high with original front windows. The windows are two-light casements, with eight panes on the ground floor and six panes on the first floor, all framed with brick surrounds and low segmental arches above. Nos 2, 3, and 4 have symmetrical two-window fronts with central plank doors behind gabled rubble porches that have plain rubble four-centred outer arches. Only No. 4 has a replacement front door. No. 1 has a similar style but features a one-window front, with a wide shop window and central door on the ground floor. This shop window has an exposed timber lintel that is soffit-chamfered with scroll stops, framed by a moulded concrete hoodmould. The front roof is continuous and hipped at each end, with all chimney shafts being original. The interiors contain much 19th-century joinery detail.
