Description

A farmhouse and barn, now divided into two cottages, dating possibly from the 16th and 17th centuries, with significant remodelling in the 18th and 19th centuries, and subdivision around 1970. The building is constructed of plastered cob on rubble footings, with rubble stacks topped with 20th-century brick and a wheat reed thatched roof. It has a T-shaped layout, comprising a 4-room main block facing south and a rear block at a right angle, which includes a barn to the north. Number 1 occupies the two left (west) rooms and the rear block (including the barn), while Number 2 occupies the two right (east) rooms. There are two axial stacks in the left rooms and two rear lateral stacks in the right rooms. The front elevation has a regular appearance with six windows, featuring late 19th and 20th-century casements, most with glazing bars. A door is located to the right of centre for Number 1, and a further door is in the rear block for Number 2. The west front of the rear block features two 20th-century casements with glazing bars and a central door leading to a former threshing floor, with a ventilator to the right. All roofs have hipped ends. The cottage interiors retain simple carpentry details. The roof was not inspected.
