Description

A range of two cottages, likely dating from the late 17th or 18th century. They were built when Kentismoor was still a largely undeveloped area. The cottages are constructed with roughcast cob on stone footings, and have a hipped and gable-end thatched roof. Originally built as a single-depth range, a later wing, probably from the 19th century, was added at a right angle to the right. Number 3 has an axial brick stack to heat it, while number 4 has a rear lateral external brick stack. The cottages are two storeys high. On the south-facing front, there is a five-window range, with a weatherboarded extension to the left. The first-floor casement windows are 20th century, with four under eyebrow eaves, and one with a lintel at eaves level. The ground floor has three 20th-century casement windows, along with late 20th-century porches with glazed leantos, one for each cottage. 20th-century windows are also present at the rear. Inside, a room on the right-hand side of number 3 has a deeply chamfered cross ceiling beam. The fireplace in this cottage has been renewed, and another room has an unchamfered, roughly hewn cross ceiling beam. The fireplace in number 4 is blocked. These cottages run parallel to numbers 1 and 2 Kentismoor Cottages and together make a notable group.
