Description

Nos 1, 2, and 3 Catford Court are three dwellings, likely originating in the 17th century or earlier. The construction is roughcast cob on a stone plinth, with a gable-end slate roof. Originally designed as a single farmhouse with a three-room, through-passage plan, the service end (now number 3) is positioned to the left of the passage. A higher end extension returns to form outbuildings, creating an L-shaped plan overall. The service end originally had an internal end stack for heating, while the hall and inner room were heated by internal lateral rear stacks, all with brick shafts. The building is two stories high.

The front elevation features a modern projection containing a kitchen and a synthetic slate catslide roof, largely obscuring the former service end. Remaining visible is a stair turret with a first-floor, two-light casement window. A three-window range is present, with three two-light casement windows on the first floor and four on the ground floor, and three doorways with planked doors. One 19th-century casement window remains at each end of the front elevation. The rear wall of the service end is recessed, suggesting a rebuilding, and has several later additions at ground floor level, with four 19th-century casement windows above.

Inside, the hall has a deeply chamfered, unstopped cross ceiling beam. The rear fireplace is blocked, but parts of the timber lintel and jambs are still visible. The inner room contains a shallow chamfered, unstopped cross ceiling beam and a fireplace with an unchamfered lintel. Straight roof trusses, visible in the bedrooms, are a notable feature.
