Description
Park House and Park House Cottage are an early 19th-century house and adjoining cottage situated in Morchard Bishop. The main house is constructed of plastered cob on rubble footings, with rubble stacks topped with 19th-century bricks and a thatched roof. The building is L-shaped, comprising a two-room main range facing south-east, with a rear block at a right angle behind the south-east end. Park House occupies the front wing and an adjoining room of the rear wing, while Park House Cottage occupies the remaining two rooms of the rear block.
The symmetrical front façade of Park House features three windows, with 19th-century three-light horizontal sliding sash windows on the first floor, retaining some original crown glass. Ground-floor windows have been replaced with 20th-century casements without glazing bars. A central, wide 19th-century six-panel door is set within a moulded doorcase with a flat hood supported by shaped timber brackets. The front wall bows slightly forward. The roof is hipped at each end and has deep eaves to the front, covered with slate.
The front of Park House has a similar first-floor sash window and a ground-floor casement. Park House Cottage has late 19th- and early 20th-century casements with glazing bars. The interior of Park House retains some early 19th-century joinery and plasterwork. The roofs were not inspected. The building was formerly known as Raymonts Bakery.
