Description

This is an 18th-century cottage located on the north-east side of Fore Street, Morchard Bishop, situated between numbers 3 and 5. It is one of a row of 13 cottages, forming a long, continuous stretch of thatched buildings which is believed to be the longest in Devon and possibly in England. The cottage is constructed of plastered cob on rubble footings, with a rubble stack topped with 19th-century brick and a thatched roof. It has a two-room plan, with a central entrance facing south-west. The north-western room is served by an end stack. The front has a symmetrical arrangement of two windows, featuring late 19th or early 20th-century casements with glazing bars. A central doorway has a late 19th or early 20th-century plank door and a 20th-century monopitch, felt-roofed porch on plain posts. The interior displays plain carpentry detail.
