Description
This 18th-century cottage is located on the north-east side of Fore Street, Morchard Bishop, set between numbers 1 and 3. It is constructed with plastered cob walls on rubble footings, featuring a rubble stack topped with 19th-century brick and a thatched roof. The cottage has a simple two-room plan and faces south-west. It is nearly symmetrical with a two-window front. The windows are a mix of 19th and early 20th-century casements, with various glazing bar patterns. The first floor windows are 3-light casements featuring small rectangular panes, 8 to each light, including some original glass. Internally, the carpentry is plain. This cottage is part of a row of 13 and contributes to what is believed to be the longest continuous run of thatch-roofed buildings in Devon, and likely in England.
