Description
This is a shop with living accommodation above, dating from approximately the 1840s, located on Gold Street, Tiverton. The building is constructed using mass wall construction, with a smooth rendered finish to the front and a slate-hung gable end on the left. It has a slate roof with gabled ends, along with a rear lateral stack featuring a rendered shaft, and cast-iron rainwater goods.
The front of the building is symmetrical above the ground floor and has three storeys. The deep eaves are supported by shaped brackets. A plain timber doorcase with a cornice frames the recessed 20th-century front door. The shop front to the left has a plate glass window and flanking pilasters with sunk panels, although the cornice is missing. A 20th-century half-glazed door is positioned to the right. A 16-pane hornless sash window is located between the door and the shop front, with a grille covering a boarded basement opening below. There are two 16-pane hornless sashes on each of the first and second floors. The rear elevation, facing Stokes Lane, is plain and featureless, aside from the rear lateral stack. The interior of the building has not been inspected.
