Description
The statue of King Edward VII is located on Lowman Bridge in Tiverton. It was created in 1912 by Harry Hems of Exeter. The statue is made of white marble and stands on a granite pedestal. King Edward VII is depicted standing with his left foot slightly forward, dressed in military uniform and a royal robe draped over his shoulders. His left hand rests on a sword that is strapped around his waist, while he carries a sceptre against his right arm. The front edge of the statue features the signature "HARRY HEMS."
The pedestal is square and tapered, supported by scrolled diagonal buttresses, and it rests on a low square plinth. On the front of the pedestal, the inscription reads "EDWARD THE PEACEMAKER 1841-1910," and below it, "PRESENTED BY THOMAS FORD ESQ JP TO HIS NATIVE TOWN."
