Description
The walls and gates to the walled garden at Knightshayes Court were built between 1868 and 1874 for Sir John Heathcoat-Amory, designed by William Burges. They are constructed from local purple stone rubble set in red cob mortar, featuring cast and wrought-iron gates. The walls enclose a rectangular kitchen garden and are tall, topped with moulded brick coping and rounded corner turrets that have corbelled coping, although the caps or spirelets are missing. There is a bell turret on the north side. The gateways made from Ham Hill stone have chamfered lintels and are adorned with cast and wrought-iron gates that feature scrolled panels and floral decorations.
