Description
The Church of St Thomas is an Anglican church built in 1843 by Benjamin Ferrey, under the guidance of Rev. William Rayer. It is constructed from red local stone that is squared and brought to course, featuring dry slate roofs with coped gable ends and a bellcote over the west gable. The church is designed in the Middle Pointed style and includes a chancel with a north vestry and a nave with a south porch. The exterior has corner buttresses and buttresses that divide the bays.
The nave has four bays and is adorned with 2-light windows that feature trefoil-headed lights and quatrefoil tracery under hoodmoulds, with varied naturalistically-carved heads serving as stops. The east window is a similar 3-light design, and there is a complex rose window at the west end. The chancel vestry has simple mullioned windows, while an attached probable extension to the north of the nave boasts a wide window with complex tracery.
Inside, the church features richly-coloured stained glass and borders of grisaille glass below. There are also tablets dedicated to the Heathcote-Amory family.
