Description

Great Garlandhayes is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, which was remodeled in the 18th century and has had later alterations. It is constructed of random rubble chert and features a gable end slate roof with crested ridge tiles. The house has a three-room, through-passage plan, with the higher end located to the right of the passage and a wing at the rear of the service end. The hall is heated by an axial stack that backs onto the passage, while the service end has an end stack; the inner room has been reduced to one storey. The building stands at two storeys tall.

The front exterior has a four-window range, with two first-floor casement windows dating from the 19th century and the others from the late 20th century. There is a timber porch leading to the passage, and the hall and service end have 20th-century casement windows. Some of the rear windows are 19th-century with brick surrounds.

Inside, the hall is now divided by a 20th-century partition and features framed ceiling beams with deep chamfers, along with an axial ceiling beam that has scroll stops. The passage contains three cross beams with hollow step stops, and the lower end side of the passage showcases early 18th-century panelling. The ceiling beam in the service end also appears to be from the 18th century, with a shallow chamfer.
