Description

Winfrith's Well is a well-house located in Newcombes Meadow, a municipal park in Crediton. The structure's original date cannot be determined from its fabric, but it appears to have been extensively rebuilt in the 20th century. It is constructed of local stone rubble and features a granite lintel. The well-house has a large domed shape and includes a timber door on the south side, which is topped by a granite lintel inscribed with "Traditional well of Winfrith. AD 680." The well-house is surrounded by municipal concrete bollards and chains. Winfrith, also known as St Boniface, is believed to have been a native of Crediton.
