Description

The bridge over the disused leat, dated 1868, features snecked local mudstone abutments topped with grey limestone ashlar caps. It has a cast-iron bridge and parapet, consisting of a single span between vertical abutments. At road level, there is a simple projecting drip course, and the terminal piers above have low pyramidal caps that include panels of rustication on their sides. Due to the angle of the leat, the terminal piers are rhomboid in shape rather than square. The bridge itself is flat, supported by cast iron girders, and the outer faces are moulded. Each side has tubular railings held up by three moulded, circular-section uprights resting on shaped corbels. The bas-relief legend in bold capitals 'KERSLAKE ENGINEERS, EXETER, 1868' is displayed on each side.
