Description
Knowle Lake is a cottage, likely from the 18th century. It features a structure made of plastered cob with rubble footings, a rubble stack topped with brick, and a thatched roof. The cottage is two storeys high and faces south, with a small ancillary range that projects forward from the left (west) side. The front has one window arrangement consisting of 20th-century casements, with one on each floor on the right side. There is a large lateral stack with an oven projection on the right-hand side, and a door on the left behind a 20th-century glass-sided porch. The gable-ended wing has a 20th-century casement on the first floor. At the rear, there is a rubble kitchen that dates from the late 19th to early 20th century. Inside, the carpentry details are plain. It is likely that this was originally a one-room cottage with an adjoining block added later.
