Description

Stenhill Cottage is a detached cottage dating from the early 17th century. It is constructed of roughcast cob on stone footings and features a half-hipped thatched roof. The cottage has a two-room plan, with the entrance leading directly into the right-hand room, which is heated by an internal end stack with a brick shaft. The left-hand end stack has been dismantled. The building is made using jointed cruck construction, with an internal partition that rises from the ground floor to the roof, standing independently of the two trusses located near each end of the structure. There is a winder stair in the left-hand near corner, and the cottage has two storeys.

The exterior features a two-window range on the front. On the first floor, there is a late 19th-century two-light casement window to the left, and above the door, set high under the eaves, is a small two-light fixed casement window with a chamfered mullion and surround, likely from the early 17th century. The ground floor has a roughly central doorway with a 20th-century planked door, a late 19th-century two-light casement window to the left, and another two-light window with a pegged frame to the right. There is also a 19th-century two-light window at the right-hand end. Inside, the right-hand room has unstopped ceiling beams, and the jointed cruck trusses feature Alcock F2 apex carpentry.
