Description
The walled garden, including walls and freestanding urns, is located immediately east of Bradfield House. It features low walls surrounding the garden, with gates and gate piers to the east, and urns and vases set on the piers of the wall. The garden is likely designed in the 1860s by architect John Hayward, who was commissioned by Sir John Walrond to restore and extend Bradfield House. The walls are constructed of random rubble limestone, with ashlar corner and subordinate piers. The piers have moulded caps and are topped with richly ornamented stone vases, with some urns still remaining on the subordinate piers. The gate piers to the east are square in section, with one retaining its vase. The wrought-iron gates feature an overthrow with arms and crest, a double lockrail, and decorated panels. Additionally, four freestanding urns are placed within the formerly laid-out garden, which was admired in an article published in County Houses and Gardens Old and New in January 1904.
